Power of God Church is located in the community of Embo in the Kwa Zulu Natal, known as the Land of 1000 Hills. Pastor Leonard Gcabashe is the founder and pastor of the church with his wife Gladys alongside.   The church sits at the top of a hill seen from afar by the many impoverished communities of Embo .  Pastor Leonard and his wife Gladys and the church members are doing powerful ministry in Embo, where it is estimated that 68% of the population is infected with HIV.  The Power of God congregation has been greatly impacted by this pandemic with children being orphaned and abandoned, many left at the church.  In response to the orphan crisis, Power of God established two small group homes for orphans near the church which FPC significantly supported.  The church also provides home health care training, sending out healthcare workers to come alongside the sick and dying.  Often, a young child is found helping the dying family member.  If a patient needs respite care, Power of God contacts  Hillcrest AIDS Centre, also an FPC partner, and the patient is taken to the Hillcrest Respite Unit.

Gladys and Leonard are being Jesus to those in the community. In addition to the spiritual care at the church, they also provide food, medical care and love to all in need.  Power of God’s ministry includes the church, a food pantry, crèche or nursery, two small group homes, community vegetable garden, as well as helping house AIDS orphans with families in the community.  Pastor Leonard also officiates funeral and burials daily.  Pastor Leonard’s heart is to reach the lost whether a street boy, drug dealer or witch doctor.  He just wants them to know the truth of the Gospel so that they may have the hope and joy of Jesus in spite of the difficulties they face.

FPC has taken teams to lead women’s conferences, leadership sessions, as well as prayer walks, visits to the sick and serving as an encouragement to our dear brothers and sisters in Embo.  Global Missions regularly takes vision trips to introduce our members to the ministry partners in South Africa.
