Marriage Conference

January 20, 2023 - January 21, 2023

Fri | Jan 20 | 6–9 PM & Sat | Jan 21 | 8:45 AM–3:30 PM

Do you want to feel known and loved by your spouse? God embedded marriage in the story of creation and redemption. He addresses our relationships with good news! Through looking at Genesis 1-3 and hearing practical illustrations from teachers Jim and Sara Singleton’s own marriage, we will learn how strong love results from a greater attachment to God and our spouses. We will learn how to move from insecure attachment—shame, blame, and hiddenness that keep us at a distance—to what psychiatrist Curt Thompson, M.D., describes as being seen, soothed, safe, and secure. Please invite other couples and join us for an encouraging, enlightening weekend event. Meals will be provided and childcare will be available.

About the Speakers

Jim and Sara Singleton have been married for 44 years and are both teachers and pastors. They have two grown children and three grandchildren, the youngest of whom is adopted as their son.

Jim recently retired from ten years of teaching at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, near Boston, where he was the Associate Professor of Pastoral Leadership and Evangelism. He now works half-time for Leighton Ford Ministries, coaching and discipling pastors. Prior to seminary teaching, Jim pastored four congregations across the US and was a founder of ECO. Jim attended seminary at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary and Union Theological Seminary and received his doctoral degree in church history from Boston University School of Theology

After practicing nursing for twenty years, Sara heard God’s call to vocational ministry and attended Austin Theological Seminary for her Master’s in Divinity. She first served as associate pastor of Marriage Ministry and Spiritual Formation at First Presbyterian Church Colorado Springs while Jim served as the senior pastor. She last served as the pastor of Old South Presbyterian in Newburyport, MA, founded by George Whitefield and the location where he is buried (just below the pulpit!) Now, she provides spiritual direction locally and long-distance and has a two-volume audio devotional, Hearts on Pilgrimage and Continuing the Journey. She was the founding director of Elder Leadership Institute (ELI) to support the theological and spiritual growth of ruling elders in the church, a resource used today by ECO churches.

Together, Jim and Sara enjoy hiking and even Cross Country skiing.
