Responding in a Time of Crisis: Afghanistan
The heartbreaking news of the fall of Afghanistan with the mass exodus of refugees is overwhelming requires an enormous response from the world in prayer and financial and personal resources. FPC has been in a relationship with ministries responding to this situation if you would like to respond by engaging and supporting their efforts.
Houston Welcomes Refugees (HWR), an FPC priority mission partner, is mobilizing our city to welcome refugees with compassion, hope, and honor as they resettle and start a new life in Houston. HWR is seeking volunteers to come alongside refugees from Afghanistan as friends to help them settle into life here. You can help in several ways… provide household items needed to set up homes, set up apartments before move-in, contribute finances to support HWR, and give of your time by becoming part of a welcome team to walk alongside families during the first 6 months of their time in Houston. Welcome teams are a huge need and specifically teams that include men. Attendance at a virtual or in-person orientation is required. Visit the HWR website for more information about volunteer opportunities, orientation dates, and other needs. Click on the link below to make contributions directly to Houston Welcomes Refugees.
Samaritan’s Purse is also responding to the great needs in Afghanistan. Gifts can be made directly on the Samaritan's Purse website.
Strategic Resource Group (SRG) is another global partner that is working to provide support on the ground in Afghanistan. Gifts can be made to FPC with a notation of SRG-Afg on the FPC Giving Page. Due to security concerns, no other information can be posted.
