Engage the World in Houston!
International Friendship Program
The International Friendship Program which is now in its 46th year at the University of Houston connects new international students with area Houston families and couples for a monthly visit with each other. Because the international students are typically single (age 22 and up) and are surrounded 24/7 by single roommates and classmates, they prefer to be ‘matched’ with Houston families with kids any age, married couples no kids, retired couples, or empty-nester couples, all representing family members they miss back home. Retired females also do very well in the program. Currently 15 FPC families are already involved in the program.
This isn’t a homestay or adoption program: the goal of the program is to get together once a month for any common interest social event for a couple of semesters or as long as both sides would like to continue the friendship. If you have the gift of hospitality, love people from different cultures, and have one day a month to share with a university student, then this is a wonderful way to engage the world here in Houston.
