Ministry Empowerment At FPC

The Mission of the Ministry Empowerment Team

As a key Vision 2020 initiative of First Presbyterian Church, the Ministry Empowerment Team was born to help envision and push our church towards living out our "sent-ness" as the people of God called to seek the good of our city and world.

To accomplish this, the mission of the Ministry Empowerment Team is to develop outwardly focused leaders and ideas, for the sake of declaring and embodying God's redemptive story – the gospel of Jesus Christ – to Houston and the world.

In other words, we develop gospel leaders and ideas.

Developing Ideas

Project Flourish is an award competition that seeks to encourage new and innovative gospel-minded entrepreneurship. This is accomplished by connecting aspiring followers of Jesus to the social, intellectual, and financial capital of First Presbyterian Church through a six-week idea accelerator and pitch competition, where applicants can pitch their venture ideas to a panel of judges responsible for awarding up to $250,000 in funding prizes.

Developing Leaders

Main Street Fellowship, currently in its pilot year, is a top-tier training program for outwardly focused Christian leaders: providing theological, spiritual, and relational foundations required for meaningful and sustainable integration of faith and work. Learn more here

History

When Vision 2020 was approved by Session in 2014, it included the specific recommendation to form a Ministry Empowerment Team to mentor individuals and groups to whom God has given a vision for ministry. Therefore, the MET was formed to empower individuals and groups to "...turn their visions for gospel-centered ministry into reality." As the "research and development" arm of the church, the MET has the responsibility to create a proper framework and process which channels training, mentoring, funding, and coaching to accomplish the visions of those individuals and groups.
