Dan Wagner
Director of Worship
Dan Wagner joins the FPC ministry with diverse experience in worship and music planning of nearly every style and tradition. As a church musician, Dan’s choirs and contemporary ensembles have served at the national denominational level, the Billy Graham Crusades, and concert appearances at the American Choral Directors conferences. Dan has taught and written for national conferences and publications on varied topics related to music and worship and is excited to bring his experience to bear as he leads the extraordinary music and worship staff at FPC. Dan’s wife Vickie - and their dog Buddy - will join him in Houston over Labor Day weekend. Vickie is a singer-songwriter, worship leader, recording and visual artist, piano teacher, and diverse musician experienced in classical as well as contemporary genres. You’ll see Vickie soon in the FPC choir as Dan enjoys observing and participating in both services, The Wagners have two adult children, John and Natalie, who will remain (for now) in the Chicago area.

Shepherd the worship life of FPC.

What’s one of your favorite scriptures?

Chronicles 5:13-14 -The trumpeters and musicians joined in unison to give praise and thanks to the Lord. Accompanied by trumpets, cymbals and other instruments, the singers raised their voices in praise to the Lord and sang:

“He is good; his love endures forever.”

Then the temple of the Lord was filled with the cloud, and the priests could not perform their service because of the cloud, for the glory of the Lord filled the temple of God.

What are your top 3 favorite movies?

Babette’s Feast, Driving Miss Daisy, Dunkirk

What is your hidden talent or fun fact about you?

I can fix cars. And sometimes break them.

Best thing about Houston?

The restaurants, especially brisket. And I hope, February. (We came from Chicago)

What drew you to your current role / ministry?

We loved the overall ministry and personality of FPC, and the people we met in the process of getting here.

What do you enjoy most about being on staff at FPC?

The environment of gifted people who are fun and friendly. It’s high-functioning but human, excellent without being stuffy. Historic, beautiful, substantial, vital and filled with people with a purpose.

Most memorable FPC moment?

Walking into the sanctuary for the first time.

What year did you start working at FPC?

2021

What is your go-to Chick-Fil-A order?

3-piece chicken strips meal with Chick-Fil-A sauce, ketchup for the fries and a diet Dr. Pepper.

If you could have dinner with anyone (past, present, or future) who would it be and why?

My unnamed Scots-Irish peasant ancestor who decided to cross the ocean to come to the colony of North Carolina. To hear that story first hand of life in the 1600s and to learn from their courage.

Who is your favorite author?

Susan Howatch (The Church of England series)

What is something God has been teaching you lately?

His work in us and on our behalf is often unfelt and unseen until we see it come to fruition. We often don’t know what to pray for or how to ask, we simply trace his sovereign hand when his grace surprises us.

What music are you listening to right now?

For the whole family, The Office.

What is one of the most memorable experiences of your life?

The birth of our kids.

What inspires you?

Beauty. In words, music, art, nature, people. People who overcome the odds. My wife. My kids.
