First Presbyterian Church of Houston is affiliated with the Covenant Order of Evangelical Presbyterians (ECO). This means that its theology is Reformed as expressed in the Essential Tenets and the Book of Confessions and its governance is Presbyterian—ruled by elders—as defined in the Polity and Discipline of ECO, all under the authority of Jesus Christ as revealed in the Holy Scriptures.

Elder & ENC Nominations

Do you know our next Elder? Our Nominating Committees are looking for candidates to serve as future Elders or on our next Elder Nominating Committee (ENC), and we need your help. If you know a Covenant Partner who loves Christ, has a strong faith, and demonstrates a willingness to serve, consider nominating them for one of these roles.

Ruling Elders

Our Elders are individuals who love Jesus Christ, have strong faith, and who are committed to him as their Lord and Savior. Elders are charged with oversight of the spiritual life of our congregation—leading, governing, and if necessary, discipline of its members (Covenant Partners). A new class of ruling Elders is elected each year and serve for a three-year term. Three classes of Elders comprise the body of Ruling Elders at any time.
