About Presbyterian School
In 1986, Dr. John William Lancaster, former Senior Pastor of First Presbyterian Church, appointed a School Study Committee to explore the feasibility of an Early Childhood and Lower School at the Church. Following this study and an expansion of the Church to include a new Christian Education wing, Presbyterian School was founded in 1988 and opened its doors to offer a distinct educational program for families in the Houston area in the Fall of 1989. Presbyterian School was founded on the vision that the three most significant institutions in a child’s life, Family, School and Church, could and should work together to educate and support both children and their families. Partnership is the philosophical underpinning of Presbyterian School’s founding and essential mission of Family, School, and Church united in the education and support of each Child.

Working in partnership and on a shared campus with First Presbyterian Church, Presbyterian School has grown from a school of 75 students to more than 630, from fewer than 50 families to more than 450; from the oldest students as three-year-olds to the oldest students as thirteen-year-olds; from a faculty of fewer than 20 to a faculty of more than 140; from sharing classrooms with the church to building a stand-alone 46,000 square foot facility. While the Presbyterian School continues to grow and innovate, it remains committed to providing families with a Christ-centered learning environment in which the total family will experience support and growth.

Today, Presbyterian School enrolls Early Childhood, Lower and Middle School students. Presbyterian School is a school where meaningful, joyful learning rooted in God’s love happens every day for every child. Presbyterian School offers a Christ-centered education at the leading edge of expertise in student learning. The School’s partnerships with over 20 museums in the Museum District, Rice University, and dozens of other institutions provide an active, project-based learning environment that promotes student agency, choice, and individual challenge. For more information on Presbyterian School visit the School’s Admission Open House on October 25 (EC/LS) or November 9 (MS) or go online to the school’s website at www.pshouston.org.
